Joseph S. Passanise

Chairman of the Board

Joseph (Joe) S. Passanise is one of the original founders of the Jonathan Project.  Joe serves as the Finance Chairman to Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s campaign committee.  Joe graduated with honors from Missouri State University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Communication (1991) and Master’s of Arts degree in Communication (1993). He continued his education as a Rotary Scholar obtaining a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of London, Imperial College (1995) and obtained Juris Doctor degree, with Honors, from Washburn University School of Law (1997). Passanise is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and both the Western and Eastern District Federal Courts in Missouri.

The Wampler and Passanise firm has been recognized as having a “Best Firm” by Best Lawyers over 6 years (2010-Present). He has also been selected as a “Super Lawyer” by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers Magazine for ten years in a row. (2006-Present). He is also listed in Who’s Who in American Law (2005-Present) and named a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” by the National Trial Lawyers (2007-Present). In 2017, Joe was recognized as a Lifetime Achievement selection among America’s Top 100 Attorneys®.

Stefan C. Passantino 

Outside General Counsel 

Stefan C. Passantino joined Jonathan Project formally in November of 2018.  Stefan joined after serving as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Counsel where he headed the White House Compliance and Ethics programs. 

Stefan is chair of Michael Best's Government Regulations & Public Policy practice where he heads the Firm's Political Law practice. Leveraging his nearly 25 years of experience to serve clients, Stefan focuses on representing corporations, interest groups, political figures, and other entities with respect to state and federal election law, ethics, campaign finance, pay-to-play, state and federal lobbying laws, internal investigations, crisis communications, Congressional oversight, and other issues. 

In the 2015-2016 election cycle, Stefan helped form, and served as counsel to, some of the largest and most influential and innovative "SuperPACs" and 501(c)(4) advocacy groups in the Presidential campaign, including the Trump Presidential Transition Team. Stefan was also asked to co-chair the Republican National Lawyers Association Ballot Access Project, which coordinated and disseminated guidance on Republican Party ballot access to counsel for all candidates for President.

Mr. Herschend served as President of Missouri State Board of Education. Herschend Family Entertainment is a privately owned themed-entertainment company that operates several theme parks and tourist attractions within the United States.

Mr. Herschend earned his business degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and holds an honorary doctorate from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. In 2019, Mr. Herschend was re-appointed and confirmed by the Missouri Senate to the Missouri State Board of Education.

Carrie Almond 

Carrie Almond joined Jonathan Project in November of 2018. Almond was elected in 2015 to preside over one of the oldest women's political organizations in the country and served her term as President from January 2016 to December 2017. She also manages her family's farming operation of more than 2,000 acres and was an Executive Vice President of Citizens Bank & Trust. Her 30 year banking career spans the states of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, she worked for the Union Bank of Switzerland in Lausanne. Almond is also involved in her community of Chillicothe, Missouri, where she has been active in the Livingston Co. Animal Shelter, the local arts council and is a Rotarian and member of the Elks. She was also Treasurer of Grace Episcopal Church, served as Chair of the Audit Committee and three terms on the Vestry.

John David Ashcroft 

John David Ashcroft was the first person to endorse Jonathan Project.  Mr. Aschroft served as the 79th U.S. Attorney General (2001–2005), in the George W. Bush Administration. He later founded The Ashcroft Group, a Washington D.C. lobbying firm. 

Ashcroft previously served as Attorney General of Missouri (1976–1985), and as the 50th Governor of Missouri (1985–1993), having been elected for two consecutive terms in succession (a historical first for a Republican candidate in the state), and he also served as a U.S. Senator from Missouri (1995–2001). He has written several books about political and moral issues.

His son, Jay Ashcroft, is also a politician, currently serving as Secretary of State of Missouri.

August Busch III

August (Auggie) Busch III is a major advocate, contributor, and fundraiser for Jonathan Project.  August served as President of the Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. (ABC) from 1974 until June 2002, and Chief Executive Officer of ABC from 1975 until June 2002. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABC from 1977 to 2006. He retired from their executive functions at the company on November 30, 2006.

He has been a director of AT&T Inc. since October 1983. He served as a Director of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1980 to 1983. August is an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Peter D Kinder

Peter D. Kinder joined Jonathan Project in September of 2018 as a Senior Advisor.   Before joining Jonathan Project, Peter served as the 46th Lieutenant Governor of Missouri from 2005 to 2017. After serving Missouri, Peter was appointed by President Trump as a co-chairman of the Delta Regional Authority in August 2017, from which he resigned in 2018 in order to join Jonathan Project.

Peter was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, the son of pediatrician James A. Kinder, Jr. and Mary Frances Hunter Kinder. He attended Cape Girardeau Public Schools and then attended Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Missouri in Columbia. He graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas in 1979 and was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1980.

Nathan Adams

Nathan has successfully run political campaigns at the state and federal levels for candidates across multiple states for nearly 20 years. He has received several awards for his political work, including Missouri’s 2010 Story of the Year from The Associated Press and Politico’s Top 5 Political Ad for 2010 and 2012.
